If I already have a c-section scar, will I have a second scar with a tummy tuck procedure?

Scarring is unavoidable in any major operation that involves an incision. Some patients are curious if they will still have other scars other than the ones they got from the surgical operations that they have undergone before. Similar to this query, patients want to know if they will still have a second scar with a tummy tuck procedure even if they have already a c-section scar. The answer for this is, it depends. Most of the time, surgeons prefer to place the tummy tuck scar right where the C-section scar is, but sometimes the C-section scar might be placed way too low, making it impossible to place it at that level and extend it to the side.

Some surgeons prefer to place the tummy tuck scar right at the C-section site, but this all depends on how much excess skin you have and the distance between the belly button and the suprapubic area. Sometimes patients do not have enough skin on the tummy to make sure that the closure of the belly will be without any tension. To give you a clearer picture, consider this example. If you have a lot of skin above the belly button, the placement of the scar right where C-section scar is will be recommended. However, if your skin is very tight and you do not have a lot of skin above the belly button, then you might need to have a tummy tuck scar slightly higher than your C-section scar.

Generally, most patients have the tummy tuck scar located at the C-section site yet it does not mean that you should have yours in the said location. If you are planning to have a tummy tuck procedure, you have to discuss with your surgeon regarding the placement of your scar.
