In medical terms, breasts sagginess is referred to as breast ptosis. Even if breast sagginess is a natural consequence of aging, other causes that may induce breast sagginess earlier than usual include cigarettes, multiple pregnancies, larger cup size, or obesity. Women’s breasts do not contain any muscles, and there is nothing you can do to avoid breast sagginess through exercise. However, exercising the upper body area will help to tighten the muscles on the chest, and the skin around the muscles might have a better elasticity.
● Smoking
Besides nicotine, all the chemicals that you can find in cigarettes cause elastin loss. Elastin is the main protein that your body produces for handling skin elasticity. Studies show that women who smoke cigarettes are more vulnerable to develop early ptosis.
● Obesity and large cup size
In both cases, more volume forces your skin to the point that your skin elasticity will not be able to deal with more weight. Unfortunately, if abnormal breast sizes are purely genetic, and when dealing with obesity, fat deposits will not avoid your breasts. Luckily, both of them can be fixed using surgery, either cosmetic or bariatric.
● Pregnancy
First of all, you need to understand that ptosis can occur due to a change in breast volume and not due to breastfeeding. A recent study showed that women in general think that breastfeeding is the main cause for breast sagginess, and the Rinker study proved otherwise. At the end of the study, the result led to the conclusion that expectant mothers should be reassured that breastfeeding does not appear to have an adverse effect on breast appearance.
Basically what happens during pregnancy is that your breasts will gain some volume. It is absolutely normal as your body prepares for the lactation period. An extra volume will create changes in pressure over the skin, and that is why your breast will develop ptosis. From here we can fairly assume that multiple pregnancies will create more changes and will eventually lead to breast sagginess. During pregnancy, you can slow down the process by wearing supportive garments or by keeping your skin moisturized. After the pregnancy, your breasts will return to their normal size in time, and it is better for you to use different bra sizes until then. Also, try to lift some weights in order for the muscles around your breasts to work all the time.
Having a baby is one of the most wonderful things that can happen to you. Luckily, breast sagginess can be fixed with a breast lift, and you definitely deserve it.
