Breast Reduction Houston

Overly large breasts can cause many problems for a woman: upper and lower back pain, shoulder grooving, skin irritation under the breasts, and even difficulty with breathing. This condition, known as macromastia, can also cause self-consciousness and low self-esteem. The Wonder Breast Reduction is a technique developed by Dr. Cortés to solve many issues related to macromastia. This procedure removes fat and excess skin, reducing the breasts to a healthier, more acceptable size. It also addresses the shortcomings of traditional techniques to provide a more aesthetically pleasing result.

The information below provides some details about the Wonder Breast Reduction in Houston Texas technique, how it differs from traditional reduction, what to expect after surgery, and postoperative follow-up.

The Wonder Breast Reduction Versus Traditional Breast Reduction

Many techniques have been used to reduce the breasts, but none can equal the shape and long-term results obtained by the Wonder Breast Reduction in Houston. Typical breast reduction techniques reduce the breasts but often do not produce a pleasing shape. They effectively diminish symptoms associated with large breasts but the resulting breast shape is suboptimal. Because the usual breast reduction technique relies on the skin envelope to maintain the desired breast shape, the result is not long-lasting because breast tissue eventually sags and bottoms out with time.

To solve this problem, Dr. Cortés not only reduces the breasts but recreates them by performing what is essentially breast reconstruction. The breast is reduced to the patient’s desired size, but enough tissue is preserved to provide upper pole fullness, that is, fullness at the top of the breasts. He also reconstructs the structures that have been weakening with time, including the suspensory ligaments of the breasts. The Wonder Breast Reduction is the best technique to provide you with an outstanding breast shape as well as reduce your symptoms of discomfort.

Best Candidates for the Wonder Breast Reduction

Although this breast reduction is performed for cosmetic improvement, in many cases it is a functional surgery that relieves the symptoms of macromastia. Breast reduction in Houston Texas is not typically performed until a woman’s breasts have fully developed and only then if the large breasts cause significant physical discomfort. A patient must be physically and emotionally mature enough to have realistic expectations, to understand what the procedure can and cannot accomplish.

Your Consultation

During your initial consultation, Dr. Cortés will measure your breasts and determine the amount of breast tissue that will need to be excised. These measurements help him assess how far the nipple-areolar complex needs to be transposed. Dr. Cortés will discuss variables that may affect your outcome, including your age, body size, breast shape, skin type, and skin tone. He will also review your health and social history to be aware of any underlying conditions that might affect your result.

Surgical Risks

The Wonder Breast Reduction Houston is not a simple procedure; in fact, it is a very advanced plastic surgery technique. The Wonder Breast Reduction technique is safe, but like any surgery, it carries certain risks, such as bleeding, infection, loss of nipple sensation, reactions to anesthesia, poor healing, and wide scars that may require revision. During your preoperative visit, as we go through the consent form, we will explain page by page everything you need to know regarding the risks and benefits of this surgery.

Where Your Surgery Will Be Located and Type of Anesthesia

Dr. Cortésperforms all his surgeries at the Houston Northwest Medical Center, a fully accredited surgical facility located near the intersection of Highways 1960 and 45. This procedure typically takes between 3 to 4 ½ hours, depending on the size of your breasts. As the surgery is performed under general anaesthesia, you will be completely asleep throughout the procedure. Local anaesthesia is not an option because of the length of the surgery. Your anaesthesia will be managed by a board-certified anesthesiologist and his assistant, who will constantly monitor your condition and ensure your comfort.

The Surgery

One unique characteristic of the Wonder Breast Reduction technique is that the procedure avoids the anchor-type incision used in traditional breast reduction techniques. Dr Cortés will dissect your breast tissue and transpose the nipple-areola complex to its new location, along with some breast tissue to successfully lift the nipple into an appropriate position. He will also dissect some tissue from the lower part of each breast and move it to provide fullness in the upper part. He will use the muscles of the chest as well as the excess skin to provide the support that will ensure long-term results. The resulting scar will be around the areola and downward vertically. If additional skin needs to be removed, the scar may have a short horizontal extension going to the side, but it will not extend toward the midline.

What to Expect After Your Surgery

After surgery, you will be placed in a surgical bra and wrapped with bandages and gauze. You will feel some pain for the first several days when you move or cough. The bandages will be removed after 7 to 10 days. There will be swelling and bruising, but this will subside over the course of 3 to 6 weeks. Your breasts will feel very high and will settle into a rounder look as time progresses. You can expect a loss of nipple sensation, which often returns with time. If you have had breast reduction surgery and no additional procedure, you will be discharged on the same day as surgery.

Getting Back to Normal

Your initial recovery will require from 10 to 14 days off work. We will give you instructions for medications, diet, and showering. You will be able to exercise in about 2 to 3 weeks, but you must avoid heavy lifting for about 4 to 6 weeks. A support bra should be worn for 2 to 3 months. Over time, the swelling will gradually subside, and you will have a clearer picture of your result.

Your New Body

The Wonder Breast Reduction will give you smaller but very attractive, full-looking breasts. Dr. Cortés will close the incisions with fine suturing techniques to minimize your scars, but you do need to realize that the scars will be long. They will fade gradually over the span of a year. If your enlarged breasts were causing back pain, shoulder grooving, skin irritations, or breathing problems before the surgery, those symptoms will be relieved or disappear after surgery. Adjusting to your new breasts will take some time, but we believe you will be pleased with “the new you.”
