Butt Reduction*

If you think that cosmetic surgery intervention to the buttocks is only intended for patients who want to enhance the size and shape of their rear ends, then you are wrong. While most patients are not satisfied with the aesthetic look of their buttocks and want to make them bigger, rounder, and firmer, there are some that are having issues because of the size of their behinds. Well, fortunately, butt reduction surgery also exists.

While the butt reduction is barely new compared to the other cosmetic surgery procedures, this one is dramatically gaining its popularity. Butt reduction is a procedure that is usually combined with liposuction. The plastic surgeon also uses the same techniques in order to harvest fats from areas with excessive deposits.

During the surgery, the surgeon will first inject the patient’s buttocks with tumescent anesthesia, a solution that can make the whole process a lot easier. Then the usual liposuction technique will be performed. It might sound so simple. However, the surgeon still has to be very careful and cautious when performing liposuction in the buttocks. Special techniques and skills must be used in order to ensure that they do not damage the inferior gluteal fold.

If the surgeon has crossed this boundary, the patient might suffer from a saggy buttock. That’s why it is important to be aware that when liposuction is performed, some of the fibers that connect the buttock tissue to the skin can be damaged, resulting in early sagginess after surgery.

In my practice, I can say that butt reduction can be performed but the amount of fat that can be removed depends on the level of your excess skin and its elasticity. It is critical that the surgeon would not be too aggressive when it comes to buttock reduction because early sagginess and unfavorable results might occur.
