How is fat transfer to the buttocks performed?

As a patient, it is your responsibility to be aware of the procedures so that you can stop yourself from believing in misconceptions as well as from creating unrealistic expectations. One of the common concerns asked by most patients is how the fat is transferred to the buttocks. But before you learn the procedure, you should know what it is all about. Fat transfer to the buttocks is one of the most popular and most effective procedures that add butt projection and enhances the shape of your buttocks. It is popularly known as the Brazilian butt lift. This surgical operation involves four major steps and these are the following:

  1. Administration of anesthesia
  2. Fat extraction
  3. Fat processing
  4. Fat grafting

The first step that needs to be done by the surgeon in the fat transfer procedure is administering the general anesthesia. The plastic surgeon will then perform a body-contouring liposuction on each fat donor sites to remove the excess fats. In the said procedure, the surgeon makes a tiny incision on the fat donor sites. A tumescent solution is introduced into the incision area which helps the surgeon remove the fats easily. The surgeon will then insert the liposuction cannula inside the fat donor site through the incision.

In a carefully controlled back and forth motion, the excess fat cells are dislodged from the surrounding tissues and removed with a special syringe or a low-pressure suction pump. In the next step, the fats will be processed and purified. The fats will go through a decantation process to separate the healthy and live fat cells from the fluids, damaged fat cells, and other impurities.

The final step includes grafting the purified fat cells into the buttocks. Know that this step is critical in achieving the desired aesthetic outcomes. Any plastic surgery is critical so if you will choose a plastic surgeon, you need to consider, not just his board certification, experience or skills, but also the artistic and aesthetic values he delivers for his patients.
