Waist surgery

Creating an hourglass shape is one of the most commonly performed procedures. This is because achieving an hourglass shape is one of the desires of most women. In the procedure, the waistline is improved yet there are still anatomical limitations. The size that will be diminished on your waist still depends on your anatomy. It is not possible to copy someone’s waist if your anatomy is not applicable to the size that you want. Be open-minded that you cannot get an extremely small waist. For you to understand better, you need to have a clear idea regarding the anatomy of the abdominal wall.

The abdominal wall is made up of muscle and the fascia that surrounds the muscle. On top of this muscle, there is subcutaneous tissue which also refers to fat. Whenever a surgery is performed, liposuction is done to diminish the thickness of the said layer. Once the surgeon reaches the abdominal wall, it is like hitting a wall. It would be impossible to suck the muscle out, so once the abdominal wall is reached, that is how small your waist is going to get.

The good news is there are other things that can be done to diminish your abdomen particularly in patients who have had babies. Suturing the abdominal wall at the midline to correct abdominal wall weakness essentially recreates and diminishes the waistline. This is done by tightening the muscle and pulling the sides of the abdominal walls toward the midline. If the abdominal wall is sutured, the transverse dimension of your abdomen will decrease. Understanding your anatomy will help the surgeon determine how small your waist is going to be before the surgery is performed. You cannot pick and choose the waist size that you desire. The only thing the surgeon can do is make your waist as small as possible based on your anatomy and other factors.
