Wonder Breast Lift with augmentation

17th Feb 2016

A decrease in breast volume after weight loss or pregnancy can result in saggy breasts with a deflated appearance. As skin loses its tone and the attachments of the breasts to the muscle weakenover time, the breasts sag. Hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy also play a part in this process. Youthful, fuller breasts can be restored, however, with a breast augmentation and lift performed as a single procedure. If you are thinking about having a breast lift with augmentation, this information will help you understand the consultation process, the surgery itself, what to expect after surgery, and the postoperative care recommended. Dr. Cortés performs the Wonder Breast Lift with Augmentation. This is a unique option in a spectrum of multiple breast enhancement procedures.

The Difference BetweenTraditional Breast Lift with Augmentation and the Wonder Breast Lift with Augmentation.

Dr. Cortés performs the Wonder Breast Lift with Augmentation using a different techniqueto provide you with longer-lasting results. When a breast augmentation is performed with a breast lift, choosingthe right breast implant is essential to provide you abeautiful resultwith nice fullness. The appropriate implant choice will also minimize immediate breast sagginess or bottoming out of the implant secondary to the weight of the implant. Dr. Cortés uses sutures to suspend the breast implant while the healing process continues. With a traditional breast lift, the surgeon typically relies on a weak skin envelope to support the implant. Historical data demonstrates that a weak breast will not provide long-lasting support an implant. For this reason, Dr. Cortéstakes additional steps to ensure that the implant stays in the right place in relation to the breast mound for a long time.

Who Is the Best Candidate for the Wonder Breast Lift with Augmentation?

Typically, patients who have lost a significant amount of breast volume are the best candidates for this procedure. Simply lifting a breast will make it less droopy, but smaller. If you desire to restore volume to your breasts, the Wonder Lift with Augmentation will be the best option for you. Asymmetry in breast size is another factor that makes this procedure a good option. When you have very asymmetric breasts with significantly different breast volumes, a Wonder Breast Lift without implants is not likely to give you the result you want. In these situations, breast symmetry can be improved by usinga different size of implant for each breast.

Your Consultation

Dr. Cortés has created multiple videos to educate his patients. You can watch these videos on his YouTube channel drwilbertocorteslive to help you get the most out of your consultation.

During the consultation, Dr. Cortés will examine your breasts. He will evaluate the relationship between your nipple-areolar complex and the breast mound overall. He will measure the distance from the nipple to the fold beneath the breast as well as from the nipple to the sternal notch. He will also estimate the breast volume and document any existing asymmetry in volume, shape, or other aspects. In order to choose the most appropriate breast implants for you, he will also measure your breast width; that is, how wide your breasts are. Using all these measurements, he will suggest a type of implant that will be suitable for you. He will also encourage you to “try on” some breast sizes. These sizes will help you visualize the correlation between cup size and implant volume. It is very important to understand that when it comes to a breast lift with augmentation, we need to consider the size of the implant that your body will accept, which may not be the same as the one you desire at first. Remember that the reason you need a breast lift is that breasts have become weak. An implant that is overly large will cause your breasts to sag soon after surgery. You may also develop back pain and have wider scars. Bigger is not always better. During your consultation Dr. Cortés will assess your medical history and make note of any medical problems that might need to be brought under control prior to surgery. If you are more than 50 years old, a mammogram will be required to make sure that you do not have breast cancer or any mass, and also to provide a baseline for later comparison..

Surgical Risks

Like any other surgery, a breast lift, has risks related to anesthesia and the actual surgery. For example, you may have bleeding or develop an infection. An infection could be just on the skin or the implant itself could get infected. An infected implant must be removed. In some patients scars can become widened. Occasionally an implant can bottom out due to malposition or other causes. Complications and risks will be discussed with you during your preoperative visit, when Dr. Cortés and his staff will explain everything in detail. One thing that needs to be decided before surgery is the size of the implant that will fit you best. The bigger the implant that you want, the more complications you may have. This is due for the simple fact that you will be at higher risk of having implant-related aesthetic issues.

Where Your Surgery Will Be Performed

Dr. Cortés performs his surgeries at the Houston Northwest Medical Center, a fully accredited surgical facility, located near the intersection of FM 1960 and HWY 45. Typically, you will go home the same day. If you combine this procedure with other procedures such as a tummy tuck, you might need to stay overnight at the hospital.

Type of Anesthesia

Dr. Cortés performs the breast lift with augmentation under general anesthesia. The surgery is complex and extensive, lasting from 2 to 4 hours depending on how much sagginess is present. A Board Certified anesthesiologist will provide the anesthesia with his assistant, a nurse anesthetist.

The Surgery

The technique used to lift the breasts depends on the level of sagginess that you have. If your nipples are off by only about 2 to 3 cm, Dr. Cortés will be able to perform a minor lift, where the scar will be around the areola. In more severe cases, where the sagginess is 4 cm or more, you will need a Wonder Breast Augmentation with Lift, where the scar will go around the areola and down, like a lollipop. In some cases there will also be a short horizontal scar to the side. Dr. Cortés does not perform the traditional inverted T or anchor scar. He believes this scar, which extends all the way to the midline, is not aesthetically desirable. If you wear or show any cleavage withbra, bikini, or nightdress, the inverted T scar can show. Dr. Cortés prefers a more discreet incision. The procedure starts with the breast Dr. Cortés has assessed to be the smaller of the two. Dr. Cortés already would have planned the range of implant sizes to be used during your surgery. He will us a larger implant for the smaller breast, and for the larger breast, he will use a size to match the volume of the other breast. After the incision is performed,he will insert the implant in a pocket under the pectoral muscle, then tailor tack the skin to remove the excess skin. In this way, the new breast skin will redrape the new breast mound perfectly.

What to Expect After Your Surgery

After surgery, your breasts will be swollen. Nipple sensation can change. In many cases it may stay the same or increase. Rarely, a patient may have a complete loss of nipple sensation, which is one of the risks of the procedure. In general, breast surgery is followed by soreness rather than outright pain. Since you will be bruised and swollen, you need to start massaging your breasts gently. Sutures will be removed within 7 days. Most patients may return to work about 10 to 14 days after surgery. You will wear a support bra for about 2 to 3 months. You will be able to begin exercises and regular activities in about 3 to 4 weeks. You should limit exercising to cardio and avoid heavy lifting for about 4 to 6 weeks. We will provide you with guidanceregarding when to resume work or sexual activity. You will have less energy the first 2 weeks butwill gradually get back to your normal energy levels.

Getting Back to Normal

The contour of your breasts will settle with time. Initially, the breast implant might look very high, but this will change over the first month. Dr. Cortés will do his best to make sure your scars heal, but you need to understand that in a severe breast lift you are going to have longer scars that are permanent. Nevertheless, scars do mature and they will look much better over time. Remember, you will need to wear a support bra or a regular bra. A breast lift does not allow a woman to avoid using any support. Anecdotal studies have shown that a bra helps to slow future sagging. Also, remember that a breast lift will recreate the breast relationship between the nipple-areolar complex and the breast mound, but it cannot eliminate gravity or aging. With time, your breasts will sag again. Meanwhile, enjoy your rejuvenated figure!

The New You

Your breasts will be noticeably fuller right after surgery. You need to allow time to let the breasts settle and to get used to your new lifted breasts. This process will take about 4 to 6 weeks after surgery.
