Butt implants: a long-lasting solution compared to fat transfer?

Butt implants: a long-lasting solution compared to fat transfer?

16th Feb 2021

Getting bigger and shapelier buttocks is a goal that is commonly shared among most women. The buttocks play a critical role in your physical beauty, femininity, and fertility. Women with bigger buttocks look aesthetically welcoming and more feminine. Unfortunately, many women lack bigger buttocks. Smaller or flatter buttocks create self-esteem issues for them. As such, they look for ways to enhance their booty.

The good news is that the buttocks can be augmented with plastic surgery. The two plastic surgery procedures used to enhance the buttocks are via implants and fat transfer. But many patients ask whether the results are long lasting. With butt implants, there is no doubt they deliver long-lasting results than fat transfer, and below I will discuss why.

Difference between butt implants and fat transfer

Many people think that there is a standard buttock augmentation procedure that can serve all patients. However, there exists a clear difference between buttock implants and fat transfer, such as their goals and how the procedures are carried out.

The plastic surgeon will determine whether you are a good candidate for butt implants or fat transfer. Buttock implant surgery is usually recommended for women who want to get large buttocks. On the other hand, fat transfer is best for women who wish to add mild projection and more shape to their backside.

Butt implant surgery involves the use of external objects such as implants and incisions on the buttocks to deliver you the desired improvements, whereas fat transfer uses the excess fat available in your body to enhance your booty. What this means is that butt implant surgery is more invasive and traumatic, whereas fat transfer surgery is relatively safer.

Even though fat transfer surgery delivers natural results because it uses your body fat, the effects are not sustainable or long-lasting. On the other hand, butt implant surgery can make your buttocks considerably more prominent and the results will remain with you for a lifetime, depending on many factors.

Getting a long-lasting solution with butt implants

Buttock implants are known to add considerable volume to the buttocks, depending on the size of the implant. Also, the surgery delivers long-lasting results in most cases as compared to fat transfer surgery. Fat transfer surgery involves removal of the excess, unwanted fat in different areas of your body like the abdomen, sides, flanks, and upper back. The fat is then injected into the buttocks with the goal to make the buttocks shapelier and add some projection to them. However, your body may reabsorb some portion of the fat after the surgery, and as you age, factors like weight loss, weakness, and hormonal changes in your body will melt the fat, which can cause the results to be lost.

In contrast to fat transfer, buttock implant surgery delivers more sustainable, long lasting, and even permanent results. The main reason the results are long-lasting has to do with the butt implants. Buttock implants are made of heavy-duty, medical grade silicone material. These implants have a robust construction, which makes them highly durable.

Buttock implants are permanent objects because they do not rupture, deflate, or leak like breast implants. These implants are highly consistent and can endure immense weight, force, and strain. Buttock implant surgery delivers bigger buttocks and permanent results. If you have similar goals, you should consider undergoing this procedure. However, if you are looking for shapelier buttocks with some projection and natural effects, you should consider getting fat transfer.

There is no doubt that butt implant surgery delivers long-lasting results; however, the result’s sustainability also depends on different factors. The first factor that that would determine the viability of the outcomes is how the procedure is performed. So, what steps does buttock implant surgery involve?

Butt implant surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The implant size most suitable for you will be determined during the pre-operative consultation. The implants come in various sizes, and the plastic surgeon can tell you best as to what size is best for you.

Buttock implant surgery is an outpatient procedure. During the operation, the plastic surgeon will first make incisions on your buttocks. The incision technique and type depend on your aesthetic goals and the size of the implants.

After making the incisions, the plastic surgeon will insert the implants into the buttocks and then place them under, within, or over the gluteal muscles. In most cases, the implants are put under or within the gluteal muscle because these placement options involve lower complication and more benefits.

Once the implants are put in the desired places, the surgeon will suture and close the incisions. Your recovery will begin soon after the procedure and will continue for many weeks. The results will emerge when the post-operative swelling disappears and the incisions heal.

Whether you are a good candidate for the surgery will also determine the sustainability of the procedure. To be a good candidate and get long-lasting results, you need to be in overall good health. If you are suffering from serious health issues, the results will not be sustainable. Furthermore, you need to have realistic goals for the procedure to be a good candidate.

Next, your choice of plastic surgeon will determine the longevity of the aesthetic results. As such, you must select your plastic surgeon very carefully. If the plastic surgeon is not board-certified and inexperienced, you must not consult with him. Instead, you must do your research and choose only a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in buttock augmentation with implants. Doing so will not only ensure your safety but also make the results long-lasting.

Complications that can affect the longevity of the results

The results achieved with butt implant surgery are long-lasting; however, certain post-op complications can affect the sustainability of the achieved aesthetic improvements. These complications are:

–    Capsular contracture

Capsular contracture is a serious but rare complication that may happen after buttock implant surgery. The incisions made during the surgery gradually change into scars as a result of the collagen produced by your body to seal the incisions. In most cases, the scarring occurs normally, and the resulting scars fade and become less visible.

However, in rare cases, the scar tissues may start to contract and tighten around the implants. This effect is continuous in most cases. When the scars contract, they not only change the shape of the buttocks and make them look abnormal, but also create physical pain and discomfort for the patient. This condition is called capsular contracture.

When capsular contracture happens, you can get rid of the condition only by undergoing another surgery that involves removal of the butt implants along with the scar tissue. As such, the results achieved with butt implants are lost.

–    Implant infection

Infection is a common risk that can happen after any surgery. When the disease is shallow and limited to the incisions or tissues, it can be treated with oral or IV antibiotics. However, when a superficial infection is not immediately treated, it can spread to the butt implants. As such, you will be exposed to life-threatening complications.

To treat an infection of the implants, the patient is required to undergo a new surgery. During the operation, the surgeon will remove the infected implants and then disinfect the implant pocket and affected tissues. When the implants are removed, the results achieved with butt implant surgery will be lost.

–    Use of wrong implant size

Another issue that can trigger the need for removal of the butt implants is the use of the wrong implant size. For example, if a smaller or bigger implant is selected, the patient will not be happy with the results and may opt to have them removed, which can result in loss of the achieved results.

Buttock implant surgery is a popular plastic surgery procedure that makes the buttocks bigger on a more sustainable basis than fat transfer surgery. The credit for the long-lasting results of butt implant surgery is due to the robust construction of the butt implants. However, other factors determine the sustainability of the results. I have explained those factors above, besides certain post-op complications that can affect the longevity of the outcomes of butt implant surgery.
