Nowadays, enhancing the appearance of the buttock area is considered an artistic challenge for many plastic surgeons. Even though the buttock augmentation procedure has been performed for many years already, it is still difficult to get amazing results. Only when the Board-certified plastic surgeon chooses the optimal treatment alternative can you get satisfactory results. For this reason, the talent of the surgeon is another important factor in getting the best results possible surgical results.

The butt augmentation method, whether through fat transfer to the butt or buttock implants, should only be decided after assessing the anatomy of the patient. Other elements such as the dimensions of the waist and thighs, excess adipose tissue and weight are important when making the decision.

Buttock augmentation is a procedure for both men and women

Nowadays, it is completely natural for both men and women to aspire for an attractive posterior, especially if they have flat buttocks. The demand for buttock augmentation has risen over the years, predominantly in areas with a warmer climate. Of course, most of the patients are still women.

A flat butt has been known to lead to several insecurities because it can make it difficult for the patient to wear a swimsuit or find jeans and other garments that will fit and look good on them. However, there are now plenty of options available to correct the flat buttocks issue.

Fat transfer to the buttocks

Fat transfer to the buttocks (also known as lipofilling) is a good option for patients who aim to augment their derriere. In order to be eligible and a suitable candidate for this procedure, you should have fat deposits localized in certain areas of the body. The great thing about this procedure is that the fat transfer is done without the need to introduce a foreign object inside the body as it uses the fat cells harvested from the patient himself.

During this procedure, fat cells are collected from excess adipose tissues. This is usually found in areas like the flanks and abdomen. Fat transfer to the buttocks has been proven to enhance the quality of the skin in the area and also to fix imperfections on the donor areas. The patient will need to wait six months in between the fat transfer sessions in order to allow the body to heal. To give you an idea, the general volume of a butt augmentation via fat transfer is similar to the volume of a butt implant of around 200, 250 ccs.

If you are indeed an ideal candidate for the procedure and all conditions are met, then most plastic surgeons will recommend this technique. However, keep in mind that a fat transfer to the buttocks only offers a mild or moderate augmentation. If the patient desires a more enhanced projection, then silicone implants may be the better option.

Butt implants

Buttock implants are used when the patient doesn’t have enough fat in localized areas for surgeons to extract. In this case, you should know that butt implants resemble breast implants, but their consistency is different and much thicker.

The gluteal implants are placed inside the buttock through an incision made in the inter gluteal fold. The position of the incision is critical because it can lead to complications. There are simply places on the body that have high risk of infection due to the bacteria in the area. Aside from that, other potential complications can be the compression of the butt muscles and migration of the implants. For this reason, this procedure should only be performed by a Board-certified and highly skilled plastic surgeon.

In some cases, the surgeon might suggest combining butt implants with fat transfer to significantly augment the buttocks. The gluteal implants will give projection and a visible augmentation, while the fat transferred can offer higher definition and create a beautiful shape.

Unlike the buttock augmentation via implants, fat transfer comes with an additional benefit of enhancing the overall body shape as liposuction is used to extract stubborn fat from certain parts of your body, thereby getting rid of unwanted fat.

Hyaluronic acid injection

This procedure is minimally invasive and non-surgical and it requires the injecting of hyaluronic acid (Macrolane) into the butt cheeks. The substance is advertised as natural, of non-animal origin and biodegradable. Unfortunately, the substance is absorbed by the body within a few months or years. In order to sustain the results of the augmentation, the procedure needs to be repeated every year. In addition, it is also important to mention that this procedure is not FDA approved, so it is recommended to avoid it.

Other injectable fillers

All the others injectable fillers that are available on the market now do not have the FDA approval. As a result, we must not consider any of these as viable options to fix flat buttocks. Rather than enhancing your body, it will only lead to more complications.

Taking all these into consideration, it is possible to correct your flat derriere. In fact, there are several ways to perform the buttock augmentation procedure: using fat transfer, gluteal implants or by combining both procedures.

Having said that, it is important to remember that a satisfactory and successful result is heavily dependent on whether or not you meet the requirements of the procedure. With the help of an experienced and Board-certified surgeon, they will be able to accurately determine the optimum and most suitable procedure for you.
