Which-Cosmetic-Surgery-Procedures-Were-Popular-in-2013-745x350The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recently revealed in their annual statistics that a whopping 15.1 million cosmetic surgery procedures were done in 2013 in the United States, which increased to 3 percent from last year. Here at our Houston plastic surgery practice, we have also noticed a growing number of patients who showed interest in both surgical and minimally-invasive procedures.

So which procedures were the most popular last year?

Breast Augmentation and Silicone Implants Ruled 2013

A total of 1.7 million cosmetic surgical procedures were done last year. Breast augmentation, the top procedure in 2012, is still on top this year. The rest of the top five surgical procedures include nose-reshaping surgery, eyelid surgery, liposuction, and facelift.

It is also worth noting that an increasing number of women are now choosing silicone implants — 72 per cent of breast augmentation procedures were done with silicone. Such a trend may be a result of approval by the FDA of two brands of silicone implants in 2013 — Natrelle 410 Highly Cohesive Anatomically Shaped Silicone-Gel Filled Breast Implant and the MemoryShape Breast Implant.

It Was also the Year of Butt Augmentation and Neck Lift

Aside from silicone implants, butt augmentation procedures and neck lifts were also in demand last year. The Brazilian butt lift (butt augmentation via fat transfer) increased to 16 per cent more than that of 2012 last year. In addition, neck lift surgeries also rose to 6 per cent more in 2013 than 2012.

For non-surgical cosmetic procedures, Botox is on top of the list, with roughly 6.3 million injections done last year. Botox was closely followed by dermal fillers, chemical peels, laser hair removal, and microdermabrasion.
