Decreasing-swelling-after-liposuctionThere are a lot of people, both men and women, who are trying very hard to lose the unwanted fat deposits on their bodies. But sometimes, even with a regular gym routine and a proper diet, fat can be difficult to eliminate from certain areas of the body like the tummy and thighs. If you are confronted with localized fat and you are interested in improving the contours of your body, a liposuction procedure can be just the thing to help you. It is a well-known fact that even people with slender bodies can have unwanted fat deposits that make their bodies look less attractive than they would like. We are talking here about women with fat deposits on the hips that are very hard to eliminate, but also about the tummy fat that can be left after pregnancy and even the tummy fat in men that’s hard to get rid of.

Immediately after the liposuction procedure, you won’t see a notable difference in the look of your body, due to the swelling and bruises that can cover the area. The results will be visible in a few weeks once the swelling is gone. In most cases, the swelling and bruising won’t last longer than 2-4 weeks, but it is possible for the swelling to last for months.

How to decrease swelling after liposuction:

It is recommended to wear the girdle for as long as the doctor indicates. This special elastic clothing will help with healing after the procedure and will also control the inflammation and swelling; this is why it is absolutely necessary to wear it during the first stage of recovery after liposuction.

Pain can also occur in the first weeks after the procedure, but it is easily kept under control with particular medication. Your doctor might prescribe some ibuprofen to help you with the pain and swelling.

Each patient has his or her own recovery rhythm, but there are some tried and tested methods to help reduce the swelling after liposuction. One is lymphatic massage, which will help remove the lumpiness as well as the swelling. You can use an arnica cream or gel, as it has anti-inflammatory properties. Make sure the massage is gentle but firm; you don’t want it to cause even more pain.

Another important factor that most people disregard is time. It takes time for the body to recover after the liposuction procedure and for the swelling to disappear. It can’t happen overnight, and the patient will need to give himself or herself enough time to allow nature to take its course.

The results of your liposuction will start showing up gradually once the inflammation and fluid retention diminish. While you will be able to see results in as soon as a few weeks, it will take maybe three months to get to the final outcome. It’s important to note that the result is permanent as long as you maintain your post-operation weight.
