Getting breast and butt implants

Adding more volume to certain features of the body to get a more proportional anatomy is something that can easily be done with the help of plastic surgery. While there are no other natural means of enhancing the breasts and buttocks, implants can deliver long-lasting results that look and feel natural. Breast implants are different from butt implants from different points of view. At the same time, the procedures are performed in a similar manner but have different requirements for post-operative care.

In this article, we will discuss about getting breast and butt implants and what entails each procedure.

Getting breast implants

The procedure that entails the use of breast implants is called breast augmentation with implants. It is important to know that there are two types of augmentation procedures that can be performed on the breasts: implants and fat transfer. Fat transfer, also known as lipofilling, is less used as the augmentation achieved is not significant.

Getting breast implants entails a pre-operative consultation with the plastic surgeon during which measurements and a medical examination will be performed, and the patient will find out whether she is a good candidate for the surgery and also what type of implants are suitable to be used in her particular case. The type and volume of implants are decided together with the plastic surgeon and are dependent on the patient’s anatomy and her goals and expectations.

Other details that will be discussed during the pre-operative consultation are related to the location of the incisions and also potential risks and complications after the surgery.

The location of the incisions can be around the areola, in the inframammary fold, or in the axilla. Depending on the condition of the breast tissues and the type of implant to be used, the plastic surgeon will recommend one incision placement over the other. Also, the breast implants can be positioned either under the pectoral muscle, the mammary gland, or in a position between the two of them called the dual plane.

The surgery is performed with the patient under general anesthetic, and it requires a preparation period of no longer than a month. The hospitalization is of no more than a few hours after the procedure.

Getting butt implants

Just like in the case of breast augmentation, we also have another procedure that can be performed with the aim of adding more volume to the butt, and it is also via fat transfer or lipofilling. Unlike in the case of breast lipofilling, fat transfer to the butt is commonly performed nowadays, and it is also known as the Brazilian butt lift due to the lifting effect that it provides. However, butt implant surgery is just as much in demand as the two procedures respond to different aesthetic desires. Butt implant surgery comes to create a more impressive projection and has little effect on the shape of the buttocks, while lipofilling mostly addresses the shape of the buttocks as the injections are performed in different areas of the buttocks, including the sides.

The butt implants are positioned in the upper part of the buttocks as they can only be inserted in a pocket created inside or under the gluteal muscles. Butt implants are very different from breast implants; they have a different shape and consistency as they are made to be similar with the toned tissues of the muscles of the butt and not the soft tissue of the breasts.

Just like in the case of breast augmentation surgery, the details of butt augmentation with implants will be discussed during the pre-operative consultation with the plastic surgeon. The surgeon needs to assess the condition of the tissues of the buttocks and also discuss your medical history, current illnesses, medication, and allergies to ensure you are a good candidate for the procedure. If you are deemed as a good candidate, the plastic surgeon will proceed to explain to you how the procedure will be performed and what are his recommendations in terms of type and volume of the implants to be used. Keep in mind that it is very important to follow the recommendations of the plastic surgeon in terms of choosing the right type of implant, otherwise unsatisfactory results can be achieved. If the tissue of the buttocks is not sufficient to accommodate the size of implants desired, the plastic surgeon might recommend getting an additional transfer to the buttocks while butt implant surgery is performed. In this manner, we can ensure more natural results and proper coverage for the butt implants.

Butt implants are inserted into the gluteal muscles or under them in the upper part of the butt. The incision required for this procedure is made in the fold between the buttocks. In the past, there were other types of incisions such as on the upper part of the buttocks where the butt meets the lower back, or under the buttocks at the meeting point with the thighs. Nowadays these types of incisions are only performed if the patient is undergoing a more complex lifting procedure that entails on those areas. Otherwise, the intragluteal fold incision is pretty much the standard when it comes to butt implant surgery.

The procedure is performed with the patient lying on the tummy. The hospitalization period is just as short as breast implant surgery, and the patient can return home the same day.

Post-operative period after implant surgery

After the return home, patients getting breast and butt implants go through a recovery period that lasts about two weeks. During these two weeks, there are certain instructions that need to be followed.

Butt and breast implant surgery can’t be performed in combination. For butt surgery, the patient needs to be on her tummy, and for breast surgery, the patient needs to be on her back. It is not just a matter of position during surgery but also during the recovery period, as the most important recommendation is not to lie on the operated area for a minimum of three weeks. This means that if you had breast implants, you can lie or sleep on your tummy and if you had butt implants, you can lie or sleep on your back. After butt implant surgery, patients are also advised to avoid sitting directly on the buttocks for three weeks to a month. Any kind of pressure on the operated area where implants have been inserted can result in the opening of the incisions and also implant shifting. If the breast implants used are of an anatomical shape, the aesthetic consequences can be serious, and the patient might require additional procedures to correct it. So, make sure that after getting implants, you avoid putting too much pressure on the areas where they have been placed.

The plastic surgeon will also insist you pay attention to the incision site for the first week after the procedure to avoid infection and delayed wound healing or wound dehiscence. After butt surgery, the area where the incisions are placed is prone to developing an infection, so special care is mandatory. However, even if the breasts are not so predisposed to developing an infection, the patient needs to be careful as abnormal or bad looking scars on the breasts can alter the aesthetic result achieved with the procedure.

Keep in mind that the first two weeks post-op are essential for the success of the procedure and also for the wellbeing of the patient, so make sure to follow all recommendations.

Getting breast and butt implants is a common practice nowadays. Patients of both sexes resort to butt implant surgery to enhance the rear end and correct imperfections such as small and saggy buttocks. At the same time, breast augmentation with implants is one of the most performed plastic surgery procedures in the world that helps millions of women each year to achieve the breasts of their dreams.

Before getting butt and breast implants, the patient will have a consultation with the plastic surgeon during which the details of the procedure will be discussed in detail and also the size and type of implants recommended for this particular case. After getting breast and butt implants, a recovery period of about two weeks will follow, during which the patient needs to be careful and not sit or lie on the operated area.
