Gluteoplasty is the medical term we use to refer to buttock augmentation surgery. Buttock augmentation procedures are popular nowadays and commonly performed all over the world and in the United States. They deliver impressive results with minimal risks and are the only effective methods to increase the size of the buttocks and sustain it permanently. There are two methods available nowadays to perform gluteoplasty. While we often refer to gluteoplasty as the procedure that entails the use of silicone implants to increase the size of the buttocks, another procedure is available that uses the patient’s own fat tissue to reshape the buttocks and increase their volume. When gluteoplasty with implants is performed, the patient should know that he will achieve a considerable increase in the size of the buttocks and also an impressive projection as butt implants are inserted in pockets inside the gluteal muscles so in the upper part of the buttocks. This means that if a correction is necessary on the lower part of the buttocks or the sides, it can’t be achieved with the use of implants. The size and type of butt implants to be used should be agreed upon with the plastic surgeon during the pre-operative consultation and only after a thorough examination of the patient’s body and his aesthetic expectations. After butt implant surgery, the rear end of the patient will be increased with the volume of the implants that will stay the same no matter what changes occur in the body. This means that the result of gluteoplasty with implants is predictable and easily sustainable over time. The augmentation achieved with the help of fat transfer to the buttocks offers results that are more natural in terms of look and feel as it only uses the patient’s own fat tissue extracted from other areas of the body. However, the results achieved with this procedure are not comparable to implants. Fat transfer to the buttocks entails the use of liposuction to collect fat from areas where it is in excess and then the grafting of eligible fat cells in different areas of the buttocks. The fat is injected in all areas of the buttocks to achieve a beautiful shape. However, the projection of the buttocks won’t be as impressive as when using implants. Moreover, it is important to mention that the results of the fat transfer are sustainable in time with the condition of the patient keeping a stable weight. Weight fluctuations that can occur after the procedure can alter the aesthetic results and cause a decrease or increase in the size of the buttocks as the fat cells transferred there will behave just like the fat cells that were initially in the buttocks.
