Results to be expected after a breast lift

25th May 2019

The breast lift has been performed for many years now on patients who desire an improvement in the position of the breasts on the chest wall and a more alluring shape of the breasts. The breast lift is a complex procedure that requires the skills and experience of a board-certified plastic surgeon and the medical equipment that can only be found in an accredited plastic surgery clinic or hospital.

When considering the breast lift, many patients don’t know what to expect in terms of the results, and whether the procedure will deliver the breasts they have always dreamt of. It is important to understand that the only way to ensure you get satisfactory results is by discussing your desires openly and honestly with the plastic surgeon during the pre-operative consultation.

Despite what some people might believe, it is not easy to suspect what patients resorting to plastic surgery might want to achieve. For example, some believe that after undergoing the breast lift their breasts will look bigger as they are more elevated on the chest wall and the glandular tissue is more concentrated. Other patients believe that the breasts will actually be smaller as a specific amount of tissue is removed from the breasts.

The reality is somewhere in between. Perky breasts can definitely look sexy and alluring, and if the patient had a good volume of the breasts initially, the procedure would provide spectacular results. However, if the patient had small breasts before mastopexy, chances are they won’t look much bigger after the procedure, considering the fact that the skin that is in excess on the breasts will be removed. This means that the patient might have smaller looking breasts after the procedure. But the reduction in size is not considerable, so the procedure won’t provide a significant reduction of the breasts.

The results to be expected are breasts that are perkier and youthful looking, with a good position on the chest wall and a natural shape. The breasts will also have the marks of the incisions on them. Usually, there are one and up to three incisions that will be left on the breasts. The incisions are in a periareolar position, a vertical position from the areola to the inframammary fold and horizontal in the inframammary fold. The final results can take up to one year to be fully visible, and if the patient is not satisfied with them after this period, she can get a second opinion or revision surgery. Keep in mind that the breast lift doesn’t aim to correct the volume of the breasts in any way. If the patient desires a change in terms of volume of the breasts, the breast lift can be performed with a breast augmentation or a breast reduction.
