Signs you need to undergo butt implant removal surgery

05th Mar 2018

When undergoing plastic surgery, especially ones that use prostheses such as breast or butt implants, there is always the possibility of revision surgery or for the implants to be removed or replaced. This risk can be minimized when choosing an experienced, talented and board-certified plastic surgeon and following his recommendations to the letter in terms of the size, shape, and type of implants, as well as the pre- and post-operative care.

While gluteal implants are durable silicone prostheses made to last, there are still cases in which the recommendation is to remove them. Here are some signs you need to undergo butt implant removal surgery:

1. You are suffering from deep tissue infection

When butt implant surgery is performed, the plastic surgeon should administer antibiotics and also prescribe antibiotic treatment for five days after the procedure. Moreover, the implants should be disinfected with antibiotic solution before being inserted into the buttocks. In this case, the antibiotics have a preventive, not a curative purpose. The idea is to avoid infections from occurring. If a deep tissue infection occurs on the butt implant pocket and it will not get better with antibiotic treatment, the patient will need to undergo butt implant removal surgery.

2. The implants are visible through the skin and can also be felt

This is not a desirable result after butt implant surgery. The implants should be properly covered by the existing butt tissues, and if this is not possible, the plastic surgeon should also recommend fat transfer to be performed at the same time. If the implants are visible through the skin and can be felt to the touch, chances are their placement is not the best one or the implants are just too big for the anatomy of the patient. This is a sign that you need to undergo butt implant removal surgery. The implants that are too big can be replaced with smaller ones.

3. You can’t get used to the size of the implants and how they feel

Patients with small buttocks often ask to get the bigger size possible for butt implants. The plastic surgeon should recommend a minimal and maximal size in terms of implants, and the patient should choose a volume within those ranges. If the implants are too big, it might be difficult for the patient to get used to having them. Before anything else, the patient should be aware of the extra volume of the implants. The buttocks are not inflated with air, but with a thick silicone gel that has a certain volume. After implant surgery, your butt will not only get bigger in terms of appearance but also weight. If you can’t get used to the size of the implants or how they feel after surgery, this is a sign you need to undergo butt implant removal surgery.
