The Hourglass Buttock Implant Procedure

The hourglass butt implant procedure is a cutting-edge surgical technique developed by Dr. Cortes to create today’s ideal body exemplified by fuller, rounder, and larger buttocks through an intramuscular insertion of solid silicone implant in each butt. In this procedure, Dr. Cortes also harvests fat from other parts of the body with localized fat deposits like the abdomen, flanks, back sides, arms, thighs, and the purified fats are also used to shape your buttock.

To give you a better understanding and appreciation of the procedure, this article was written to provide you with all the important information about the surgical procedure, where the surgery will be performed, what to expect after surgery, to name a few,

The Difference Between The Hourglass Butt Implant And Just A Regular Butt Implant Procedure.

With the hourglass butt implant procedure, Dr. Cortes combines fat transfer to the side of the buttock and hips with a buttock implant. The reasoning behind this is that a buttock implant can only give projection. It is not going to change the shape of your buttock into a sexy A-shape or give you an hourglass profile. For this reason, Dr. Cortes always combines butt implant with liposuction, which involves harvesting fats from different parts of the body to create a tinier waist, fuller and curvier hips and rounded, shapely buttocks.

A traditional buttock implant only inserts solid silicone butt implants to give projection.

Best Candidate For The Hourglass Butt Implant

The best candidate for an hourglass butt implant surgery is a patient who does not have enough fats or cannot gain weight for the hourglass buttock augmentation with fat transfer. Ideally, the patient is approximately 8 to 9 pounds above the ideal weight. The excess fats are harvested and used to sculpt the buttocks and hips into the hourglass shape that enhances and heightens the projection delivered by the butt implants.

The patient should also be physically and emotionally healthy with realistic expectations. If you have any medical issues like diabetes or high blood pressure, these conditions need to be managed and under control prior to the surgery. If you are a smoker, you will need to stop smoking at least two weeks prior before and after surgery.

Your consultation

During the consultation, Dr. Cortes will assess your body and identify all the areas where liposuction can be performed, and determine if you have enough fats for the procedure. While every patient decides to have plastic surgery with a specific desire and goal in mind, it must be clear that each procedure will be customized to your body profile. Dr. Cortez will valuate your muscle tone and skin elasticity and check if you have too much excess skin in your buttocks that could be a deterrent for the procedure. He will also appraise the state of your gluteal muscle anatomy, take measurements and recommend best type of butt implants for you and the areas that will require fat

Dr. Cortes will show you sample of the buttock implant, which is made of solid silicone. It is not as soft as the breast implants. This is one of the things that you are going to need to be sure before having this procedure because the buttock implant will make your buttock feel firm like you have been exercising.

Surgical risk

The hourglass butt implant is a safe procedure. That said, it still has attendant risks and complications related to liposuction as well as the implant itself. You need to know all these so you can make an informed decision after weighing benefits versus risks. Do note that any time there is an implant inserted in the body, it can create chronic pain, increase the possibility of infection that can necessitate another procedure for removal of infected implant, and fluid accumulation (seroma).

  • Although the amount of liposuction performed is lesser compared to the lipo done during the hourglass buttock augmentation with fat transfer, there are still risks, albeit minimized. Nevertheless, it is always good to know some postoperative complications to watch out for such as:
  • Infection
  • Blood clots
  • Skin loss or burns
  • Unsightly scars
  • Fat embolism
  • Bleeding and fluid collections
  • Liposuction deformities
  • Discoloration of the skin
  • Prolonged pain
  • Swelling

As Benjamin Franklin would say, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” All the literature and clinical studies identify smoking as extremely harmful before and after surgery. If you are a smoker, you need to stop smoking at least 2 weeks prior and after surgery to reduce complications during surgery, anesthetic risks and healing complications.

During your preoperative visit, Dr. Cortes will discuss all the different complications and things that can occur during surgery, postoperative instructions and proper wound care, when to return to work, when to start exercising, what medications to avoid, etc. All these details are important to reduce risks of implant infection and wound dehiscence (opening) after surgery.

Location, where your surgery will be performed and type if anesthesia

Dr. Cortes performs his hourglass butt implant procedure at Houston Northwest Medical Center. He will require you to stay overnight in hospital for post-surgical monitoring. The surgery will be performed under general anesthetic. You will be completely asleep during the entire procedure to ensure your comfort since this involves liposuction in multiple areas and buttock implant insertion is a delicate procedure. It is impossible to do all these under local anesthetic alone. A board certified anesthesiologist, to be assisted by a nurse anesthetist who will closely monitor your condition during the surgery, will administer your anesthesia. .

The Surgery

The procedure typically takes about 3 to 4 hours. The time varies depending on the amount of fat that needs to be harvested, your pre-surgical projection, size and shape and overall buttock anatomy. While you lay on your back, Dr. Cortes starts his procedure by performing liposuction in your thighs, abdomen, flank, and sides. Once done, you will be re-prepped and re-draped and carefully turned over so liposuction can be performed in the upper and lower back. Next, two incisions will be made in the intergluteal fold, one in each side of the buttock and Dr. Cortes will dissect an implant pocket, intramuscular or within the muscle. This location is the most optimal to preclude possible complications like buttock capsule contracture as well as implant edge visibility and palpability. Once the implant is placed, the incisions are closed with layered sutures. Finally, Dr. Cortes will process the fat that was harvested and these purified fats will be injected using a small cannula, measuring about 2.7 mm. The fats will be injected multiple times around the buttock and around the implant. Injecting the fats on the side of the buttock, the lower and top part of the buttock, will give you a fuller and shapelier butt as well as reduce aesthetic complications as well.

What to Expect After Your Surgery

After your procedure, you will be staying at the Houston Northwest Medical Center where you will be given IV antibiotics as well as pain medications to manage pain and discomfort and promote faster healing. Dr. Cortex will advise the patient to move around as soon as possible and drink lots of fluids for hydration. This will greatly reduce the risk of having blood clots. In general, your buttocks will feel tight and firm and the areas where liposuction was performed will feel sore and bruised. That’s normal. Barring any complications, you will be discharged the following day. Dr. Cortes will see you at his clinic 3 to 5 days after the surgery. You will not be able to sit for about 2-1/2 weeks. Two drains will be inserted, one in each buttock and will be removed 10 days after surgery. Stitches will also be removed 10 days after the surgery. After 2-1/2 weeks, you can start using a special cushion to protect the buttock. If you sit too early after surgery, you will risk wound dehiscence and implant infection.

Getting Back to Normal

Following surgery, it is very important that you avoid sitting for 2 ½ weeks except when attending to normal bodily functions. You need to understand that every part of your body will be swollen: your face, vagina, flanks, legs will feel numb and tender in some areas, and firm and hard in others. Again, normal side effects following surgery like this. All the symptoms will resolve with time. Dr. Cortes will give you detailed instructions on medication, what to expect after surgery, showering, drain care, wound care as well as other important information. For best results, you are encouraged to strictly follow instructions. You will see the final results in about 6 to 9 months.

The New You

The hourglass butt implant can deliver very impressive results. It is indeed, a new you! You get a brand new hourglass butt with the projection, shape and perkiness of youth. The results are permanent and long lasting but it also means following a healthy lifestyle and avoiding weight fluctuations that will adversely impact on the dramatic results achieved.
